We recommend this wood as an economical choice for repair/rebuilding transoms and stringers where the plywood will be completely covered in fiberglass.

This wood is also ideal for pontoon boat decking

Fir marine plywood is inferior to our Meranti for general boat building/repair. Fir is not a good choice for stitch and glue boat building as it does not bend well and will check if not covered completely with epoxy/fiberglass.

However, for transom and stringer replacement in fiberglass boats, it a good choice as it is rot resistant and the negative attributes are negated when covered heavily with fiberglass/epoxy.
